The Basics Of A Simple, Effective Skincare Routine

The skincare world can feel overwhelming, with shelves full of serums, creams, and trendy ingredients. But building a routine doesn’t have to be complicated. With just a few key products — chosen wisely — you can cover the essentials for healthy, glowing skin.
The Importance of Cleansing
Cleansing removes dirt, excess oil, sunscreen, and makeup that build up on the skin. Without it, other products won’t work as effectively. Consider double cleansing in the evening to remove makeup and impurities thoroughly, In the morning, a single gentle cleanse is usually sufficient.
(Double Cleanse: An oil based cleanser works effectively as a first cleanse followed by a water based cleanser - however a double cleanse with a water based cleaner is still effective)

Vitamin C Serum: Your Morning Brightener
Vitamin C is a brightening antioxidant that helps even out skin tone, reduce the look of dark spots, and protect against daily damage from pollution and UV exposure. Use it in the morning after cleansing (as it needs to be in direct contact with the skin to be effective) and before moisturiser/sunscreen for optimal results.
Hyaluronic Acid: The Hydration Hero
Hyaluronic acid is all about hydration. It attracts and binds water to the skin, keeping it plump and smooth. It's best used on slightly damp skin and can be layered under moisturiser both morning and evening. Great for all skin types, especially if you’re feeling dry or dehydrated.

Moisturiser With Ceramides
Ceramides are lipids (fats) that help form your skin’s natural barrier, strengthening the skin barrier, locking in hydration, and soothing sensitivity. Choose a moisturiser that contains ceramides to support long-term skin health and maintain the skin's natural barrier.
Retinol: The Evening Treatment
Retinol (a form of vitamin A) is one of the most researched skincare ingredients, helping with reducing fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin texture, and supporting cell turnover and collagen production. Start slow (2–3 nights per week), always apply in the evening, followed by moisturiser, and use sunscreen during the day, as retinol makes skin more sensitive to sun.
Sunscreen: Your Daily Defence
No skincare routine is complete without sunscreen. It protects against premature ageing, sun damage, and skin cancer. Use SPF 30 or higher every single morning — even on cloudy days, to shield your skin from harmful UV rays.
